Wanting a way to connect my two sites, I created "EWS" in 1997 - short for Eric's Web Sites for lack of a better name. I created several new sections after that. I made everything from chat rooms to a web site for my favorite clothing designer, Tommy Hilfiger, since they didn't yet have a site of their own.
EWS was beginning to receive an impressive amount of traffic when I learned that I could sell advertising space on my web pages and make some money from my hobby. At this time, EWS was getting over 100,000 hits a day and 50,000 page views a day. EWS peaked in 1999 along with every other web site during the "dot com boom". After that, several other web sites and several online advertisers went out of business but EWS stayed alive. EWS was left outdated for a couple of years after I graduated high school but luckily kept a steady amount of traffic. Now, as I near the completion of my college degree, I've got my entrepreneur spirit back and I'm now in the process of updating all of the older sections of the web site and adding new content that appeals to young adult and college student web surfers.
I'm 23 years old now and I'm studying marketing the University of Connecticut. I will graduate with a bachelor's degree in science in December 2006. In addition to running EWS, I also created a parent company of EWS, called Sturgeon Productions LLC, which offers professional digital media services. I've designed and hosted several web sites for small businesses and recently began offering video production as a service through Sturgeon Productions after creating a video yearbook for my high school's senior class. In addition to working for myself, I worked in sales in the wireless industry for four years after graduating high school and plan to stay in sales/marketing after college.
