Somehow this question just popped into my head ... But I wonder who the first person was to say that they were "surfing" the web. Not that there's anything wrong with that phrase ... I like the sound of it and all but why "surfing"? How would one surf a web? Wouldn't "crawling" be the more logical term for what you do on a web. I guess that doesn't sound as good though. "Hey what's up?" "Ah nothing much, just CRAWLING the web". Nope, that's weird. In spanish you would say "navegando la Red". Navegar = to navigate, nothing strange about that. But us crazy Americans have to come up with an arbitrary word for everything. Just like how we park in our driveways and drive on our parkways. And do they still call the highway an interstate in Hawaii? I bet they do. Words are fun.
